Measuring the Dust Attenuation Curves of SINGS/KINGFISH Galaxies Using Swift/UVOT Photometry

چکیده

Abstract We present Swift/Ultraviolet Optical Telescope (UVOT) integrated light photometry of the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (SINGS) and Key Insights on Galaxies: A Far-Infrared with Herschel (KINGFISH) samples nearby galaxies. Combining Swift/UVOT data archival photometry, we investigate a variety dust attenuation curves derived using MCSED , flexible spectral energy distribution (SED) fitting code. fit panchromatic three different star formation history (SFH) parameterizations: decaying exponential, double power law, piecewise function breaks at physically motivated ages. find that average law sample changes slightly based SFH assumed. Specifically, exponential leads to shallowest curves. Using simulated data, also fails outperform more complex SFHs. Finally, systematic offset in bump strength between SED fits without UVOT where inclusion smaller strengths, highlighting importance data. This discrepancy is not seen mock photometry. Understanding local universe key understanding high-redshift objects rest-frame far-infrared are unavailable.

Extremely red galaxies: dust attenuation and classification

We re-address the classification criterion for extremely red galaxies (ERGs) of Pozzetti & Mannucci (2000 – PM00), which aims to separate, in the Ic − K (or Rc − K) vs. J−K colour–colour diagram, passively evolving, old (> 1 Gyr) stellar populations in a dust-free environment, associated with ellipticals (Es), from dusty starburst galaxies (DSGs), both at 1 < z < 2. We explore a category of obj...

The ultraviolet colours and dust attenuation of Lyman-break galaxies

Using GALFORM, a semi-analytical model of galaxy formation in the cold dark matter cosmology, we study the rest-frame ultraviolet (UV) colours of Lyman-break galaxies (LBGs) in the redshift range 2.5 ≤ z ≤ 10. As the impact of dust on UV luminosity can be dramatic, our model includes a self-consistent computation of dust attenuation based on a radiative transfer model. We find that intrinsicall...

Dust Attenuation in Hydrodynamic Simulations of Spiral Galaxies

We study the effects of dust in hydrodynamic simulations of spiral galaxies when different radial metallicity gradients are assumed. SUNRISE, a Monte-Carlo radiative-transfer code, is used to make detailed calculations of the internal extinction of disk galaxies caused by their dust content. SUNRISE is used on eight different Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) simulations of isolated spiral ga...

Hot dust in normal star-forming galaxies: JHKL′ photometry of the ISO Key Project sample

Abstract. We present JHK and 3.8μm (L′) photometry of 26 galaxies in the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) Normal Galaxy Key Project (KP) sample and of seven normal ellipticals with the aim of investigating the origin of the 4μm emission. The majority of the KP galaxies, and all the ellipticals, have K −L < ∼ 1.0, consistent with stellar photospheres plus moderate dust extinction. Ten of the 26 ...

assessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
